This project involved a complete interior overhaul and transformation of a classic Laguna Beach cottage, moving away from a dated interior to create a sophisticated, curated "coastal-cottage" aesthetic that blends modern function with organic warmth. Kovach Design led the full interior design, material selection, and furniture procurement.

This project successfully met the client's goal of a modern, inviting space that utilizes sustainable finishes. By focusing on material curation, strategic spatial planning, and a unique blend of custom and sourced FF&E, the Laguna Beach House stands as a key example of how Kovach Design creates bespoke residential environments.

Interior Design Scope

o elevate the space while honoring its original coastal character, this comprehensive interior transformation optimized the open-plan layout to seamlessly connect the kitchen, dining, and living areas for improved flow and entertaining. The project involved restoring key architectural elements—such as the exposed post-and-beam system and tongue-and-groove wood ceilings—paired with crisp white shiplap walls and dark-framed, high-performance windows to maximize natural light. In the kitchen, a custom bi-color cabinetry layout features crisp white uppers and deep navy lowers complemented by natural stone countertops, a pro-style range, and open bar shelving. The design was finalized with full FF&E procurement, incorporating wide-plank distressed oak flooring, custom seating like a slipcovered sectional and built-in banquette, artisanal lighting, and curated vintage textiles to deliver an authentic, elevated coastal aesthetic.
